How do i change the pull switch in my bathroom?

i have to change the pull switch in my bathroom and having problems gettting the light and the fan to come on at the same time i only have 2 cables coming through a 3 core with 2 red wires and an earth and a single cable with just 1 red wireHow do i change the pull switch in my bathroom?Have you connected all three red wires together? It sounds like the 2 red wires come one from the fan and one from the light, connecting them both to the other red wire seems like it would make them both come on at the same time.

I'm in the US, though, things may be very different where you are. And without a picture or diagram listing where each wire is coming from, it will be almost impossible for anyone to help with this.

Perhaps asking someone where you bought the new switch will get better help. Good luck! How do i change the pull switch in my bathroom?Turn the power off and go buy a new pull switch, you an find them at any hardware store. really easy to change and are usually color coded for the wires. How do i change the pull switch in my bathroom?just look how it comes apart and put it back the sane way but turn the power off first if your touching the wiresHow do i change the pull switch in my bathroom?First you will need to purchase a new fixture, these are about $4.00 for a porcelain light socket with key (chain)

Next, turn on the light, you will need to go to the fuse box and turn off the breaker for that room, when the light goes out then its safe to start.

You will need a screwdriver and a pair of wire strippers.

Unscrew the fixture from the ceiling, once down you will see two wires attached. Turn the fixture so that you can take the wires off. After the wires are off, take the new fixture and re hook the wires, the black wire will go in the gold screw on the back of the fixture and the white wire will go on the white or silver screw, if you have two wires of the same color don't panic just hook one wire to each screw it really doesn't matter for a light but the above colors are the proper way.

then refasten the fixture to the ceiling and replace the bulb and shade, attach the chain and now you can turn the breaker back on and it's done.

They dont make twin and earth with 2 red wires in!

Please explain more!

What colours are the 3 core?

Have they got red sleeving on?

What is the other cable- is it a single and earth or just a single cable?

What colour is it?

And just to prove the bloke below me wrong even pre-1977 15th Edition conductors arent red and red heres the proof

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electrical_How do i change the pull switch in my bathroom?you should have drawn how you removed them from the old switch for reference

the cables you have are (red-red t%26amp;e) yes it does exist

and red single

it would be impossible for us to tell you how to connect them without having a look at it or testing it seeing as you have obviously gone wrong

get an electrician to take a look it will take him about half an hour to sort it for you

good look

in addition the two reds from the t%26amp;e will not have been in the same connection one goes to common (c or com) the other goes to way 1 i will not guess where the red single goes. the earth goes to earth

good luck
