How to wire a timer switch?

I am changing a regular on/off switch with a Legrand 7 Button timer switch. Its going to a flourescent light in my closet and the switch is rated for a flourescent fixture. I see the hot wire (black), a neutral (white), a ground (green), and a red wire that says %26quot;load%26quot;. What do I do with this red wire???How to wire a timer switch?black is the %26quot;line%26quot; side which is the hot wire coming from the wall so the timer always has power. the red goes to the black wire that goes to the light, it is the leg that gets switched on and off. anything that runs on electricity is considered a load.

how was the original switch wired? did it have the white on one screw and the black on the other? if so you'll have to find the one that is always hot and which is the one that goes to the light.

to ?: you don't need a neutral because the neutral is at the light fixture. the 2 wire with ground cable is used as a switch leg, you just need a ground.

you only need a neutral if that is a junction box that continues to a receptacle, etc. you would not be able to tap power from that box without a neutralHow to wire a timer switch? The red gos to the light fixture as the switched hot lead. How to wire a timer switch? You can't wire it with the wires available in the box. There is no neutral present. You have only a switch leg only in your box. Probably the hot is coming down on the white wire and going back to the light on the black wire. You need to pull a 3 conductor wire. The ground doesn't count as a conductor.
