I am changing from a ceiling fan to a light. i hooked the white to white, black to black and grounded the ground. The is a red wire left over that i capped off. when i turned the breaker back on the light stays on regardless if the switch is up or downHow to change ceiling fan to light fixture?A fan usually has two %26quot;hot%26quot; wires, red and black. One goes to the light, the other goes to the fan.
To do this right, wire your light fixture to the black and white wires, cap the red one. Open your switch box, and wire the switch to the black and white wires too. Then cap the red at the switch end too.How to change ceiling fan to light fixture?Oh, I HATED doing this when I reno-ed my house! It's the most frustrating thing. Ceiling fans are wired differently and when you change to a normal light fixture. Go RED WIRE to black and see if that does the trick. Usually does.
EDIT...of course....turn off the power! And call an electrician if you feel out of your depth. Electricity can be deadly.
