About a week ago, our outside light went out, so I changed it. When I went to turn the new light on, it worked for about a minute, then went out. My husband turned the switch off and when he went to take it out of the fixture, the bulb broke in his hands. How do we remove the rest of the bulb from the fixture? Sometimes the power coming into your house can be on the high side making bulbs burn out. But this should be happening with more bulbs than that one. So check in the socket and make sure the tang at the bottom is not pushed far down into the socket. If it is lift it up a little. When its down to low it can cause arcing which make more heat and shortens the life of the bulb. And what could have caused this?I have no idea what is causing the bulb to break may be it is old but to get it out with out cutting yourself use a sponge just cover the broken with the sponge and twist the top and it will come out.
