How do you switch outlets controlled by a light switch?

I want to change the outlet that is controlled by the light switch to another outlet. How do you switch outlets controlled by a light switch? This is a job for a pro.

An outlet with a hot switch (one side controlled by a light switch) has additional wiring going from the one side of the outlet to the switch box. If you wanted the switch to control a different outlet, you would need to have it re-wired.

A better (and cheaper) alternative is a wireless remote switch. It allows you to put a switch anywhere you like and control a device plugged into the receiver. People use them for lamps and such. This is something that most hardware stores have - they require no wiring - and they're easily set up.How do you switch outlets controlled by a light switch? It's possible - but not easy.

I recommend calling an electrician. How do you switch outlets controlled by a light switch?Have to get a switchleg to it. It is possible there is one there. Call a pro.How do you switch outlets controlled by a light switch? That involves a wiring change in the wall. You see there is what is called a switch leg, that is a wire that comes from an outlet and goes to the switch. Other outlets are wired directly to the breaker box without the switch leg wire, therefore they are not controlled by a switch.

Moving this will require moving wires, not just the outlet itself. How do you switch outlets controlled by a light switch?Make sure the switch is off. Then check the outlet with a volt meter to be sure there is no power running to it.Then all you have to do is pull off the wires and replace it with a new plug.Just like you would with a regular outlet.I ASSUME NO RESPONSIBILTY FOR DAMAGE OR INJURY CAUSED BY BEING HAM-HANDED OR JUST PLAIN STUPID.YOU ARE OWN YOUR OWN HERE BUBBA!!How do you switch outlets controlled by a light switch?i assume you are just wanting to replace the outlet if so, locate the breaker that supplies power to the switched outlet/receptacle,

noting the position that the old one is in (ground hole up or down)

remove the cover then the receptacle screws, then carefully pull the receptacle out of the box stretching the wires out so that you can get to them and maintaining the same orientation as it was while it was in the box, then match the new receptacle with the old one, take one wire at a time off the old one and place it on the new one in the same position. push the wires and place the new receptacle in the box and put it all together. job done. How do you switch outlets controlled by a light switch?By the time you figure this out an electrician will have already fixed it.

It's worth the money. How do you switch outlets controlled by a light switch?Well, I guess I will be reading about you in the newspaper if you do not call an electrician. How do you switch outlets controlled by a light switch?Right now you are working off of a split outlet. The outlet that is being powered by the switch has been split or had the metal jumper removed to enable it to have a separate power source. To change the destination of the power from the switch one would have to remove the switchleg from the original outlet and run a new one to the new outlet.

Now if you just want to replace the outlet with another one, that's easy. Turn the breaker off(safety first) then remove the outlet and hook it up like the old one looks. CAUTION , before youscrew the outlet into the wall box, there is a little tab on the righthand side of the outlet between the plug ins thhat will need to be broken with a pair of needlenose pliers or bad things will happen.

It is possible but a pro should do it. I would look for an alternative, perhaps a timer or a remote switch. Good luck.
