I have a 94 astro van that the brake lights all of a sudden stop working one night. I replaced the bulbs thinking one burned out. It still did not work so now we are replacing the brake light switch to see if that helps. Any other ideas and how do we change this switch out?How do you install a brake light switchon a 94 astro van?uncomfortably, i'm afraid...
The switch is mounted high %26amp; deep, under the dash, behind the brake-pedal arm...so you'll remove %26amp; replace by lying on your back, and scooted up til your face is up under the dash to reach...it's rather uncomfortable, to put it kindly.
The switch is fairly easy to see once you're in there; it's a plunger-type about 2%26quot; square just after the bend in the arm.How do you install a brake light switchon a 94 astro van?there is two outher things it could be a blowen fuse or a bad relay the switch is more likey monted near the brake peddle and screwed in to a breaketHow do you install a brake light switchon a 94 astro van?before you do any of those things, my question to you is, do you have tilt steering in your van? if yes, then look along the steering column under the dash from top to bottom, at one point you will see an electrical harness plugged into a connector attached to the column, its more towards the bottom of the column. check that connector. the 94 vans were known for pulling the connectors just ever so slightly when the tilt was used, gm screwed up and didn't keep enough length on the wires. when the wires were pulled they would just disconnect just enough not to make contact, boom, no brake lights. what i do is i just plug them back into place making sure they snap in, and then zip tie them. problem solved. good luck.
